Jo Ann G. v. Jacquelyn R.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a client whose husband was killed in a motorcycle collision. The elderly driver hit the client’s late husband head-on after making wide right-hand turn. The LaGardes were successful in negotiating a confidential pre-trial settlement that was very favorable for their client.

Ganaro G. v. Michael M. et al.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a client who suffered injuries when his truck rear-ended another truck that had stalled on the road. Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde were able to establish that the driver of the stalled truck was busy making phone calls and sending text messages when he should have been monitoring his gauges. Had he monitored his gauges, he would have received a warning that his alternator was no longer working. A favorable, confidential pre-trial settlement was reached.

Jeanis A. v. John H.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a client who suffered neck injuries that led to surgery. Their client was injured when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle that ran a red light. A favorable, confidential settlement was reached before trial.

Rodney T. v. Aquasource and Waste Management: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a client who suffered serious injuries when a speeding garbage truck hit an improperly secured manhole cover, which sent the 40-pound cover flying through the air like a frisbee. The incident resulted in severe injuries to both of their client’s legs. A favorable, confidential pre-trial settlement was reached.

Manuel G. vs. All Star Auto Sales et al.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a passenger who suffered serious injuries when the vehicle in which he was riding was rear-ended at high speed by a Lincoln driven by the employee of an auto dealership. Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde were prepared to prove at trial that the employee was at fault — and that his employer was responsible for the damages he caused while he was acting in the course and scope of his employment. A favorable, confidential settlement was reached before trial.

Devon W. v. Shannon H.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a front-seat passenger who suffered serious injuries when the vehicle in which he was riding ran off the highway and hit a concrete retaining wall. A rear-seat passenger was killed in the crash. The LaGardes were prepared to prove at trial that the actual driver of the vehicle had pulled their client into the driver’s seat following the crash and lied when he told the police that he was not the driver. The police later determined that the LaGardes’ client was not driving. All charges against him were dropped, and the actual driver was later indicted. A favorable, confidential settlement was reached before trial.

Karen L. v. Maria G.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a pedestrian whose legs were crushed when a hit-and-run driver struck her in a crosswalk. The driver fled the scene but was later caught and found to have inadequate insurance coverage for the accident. Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde obtained the driver’s policy limits for their client and then obtained additional damages for their client from her own underinsured motorist insurance (UIM) coverage.

Dr. Reed Y. v. Tamira M.: Mrs. LaGarde represented a client who suffered a fractured pelvis and other serious injuries when another driver shot down the exit ramp from a freeway and struck her from behind at a high rate of speed. A favorable, confidential pre-trial settlement was reached.

Medrano v. City of Houston: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented the husband and children of a world-renowned cancer researcher who was killed when her car was broadsided by a police cruiser traveling at 85 mph in a 35 mph zone at night without emergency lights or a siren. The LaGardes were prepared to show that the officer was obligated to use his lights and siren and that he knowingly placed others in danger by speeding without using them. A settlement was reached with the City of Houston just before trial.

George A. v. Mark C. et al.: Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde represented a Houston businessman who was struck by a speeding vehicle while in a crosswalk at a shopping center. The driver of the car fled the scene but was later caught by police. Mr. and Mrs. LaGarde were prepared to show at trial that the hit-and-run driver was a bank executive who had been drinking at a professional association’s happy hour at a local bar — and that he was representing his bank at the happy hour. A favorable, confidential settlement was reached before trial.
